Convivial award ceremonies
On 5 and 10 October, the INRS Foundation welcomed and honoured its 17 student winners from the Centres Urbanisation Culture Société and Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie, the recipients of various scholarships offered this year by the Foundation. These include the generous Arbour Foundation Scholarship, the J. A. DeSève Foundation Student Success Scholarships, the Université du Québec Student Diversity Scholarships, and the INRS Foundation Leadership and Engagement Scholarships.
At the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société, our scholarship recipients are :
Bourse de l’Université du Québec, valued at $3,000:
- Osiris Riol Gonzalez, Master’s student in urban studies under the supervision of professor Christian Poirier.
Bourse de réussite étudiante de la Fondation J.A. DeSève, valued a $5 000:
- Amed Aroche Hernandez, a master’s student in urban studies under the supervision of professor Stéphane Guimont Marceau ;
- Mamadou Diallo, a doctoral student in population studies under the supervision of professor Maude Pugliese;
- Bernardo Emmanuel, a doctoral student in urban studies under the supervision of professor Christian Poirier ;
- Caroline Flory-Célini, a doctoral student in urban studies under the supervision of professor Nathan McClintock ;
- Elisa Beatriz Ramirez Hernandez, a master’s student in population studies under the supervision of professor Laurence Charton ;
- Dorhane Manel Racha Malim, a doctoral student in urban studies under the supervision of professor Sandra Breux ;
- Diana Peña Ruiz, a doctoral student in population studies under the supervision of professor Maude Pugliese ;
- Elhadj Mamadou Kaly Sow, a master’s student in population studies under the supervision of professor Nicole Gallant ;
- Oussama Trabelsi, a master’s student in urban studies under the supervision of professors Nick Revington and Cédric Brunelle ;
- Freddy Tsopfack Fofack, a doctoral student in urban studies under the supervision of professor Guy Bellavance .
For the occasion, the students were surrounded by their colleagues and friends, professors from the centre, INRS CEO Luc-Alain Giraldeau, the Director of the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société, Professor Marie-Soleil Cloutier, INRS Foundation Executive Director Élise Comtois, and Marc Lesage, member of the Foundation’s Audit and Finance Committee, who came to applaud them.
At the Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie, the students honoured are:
Bourse de la Fondation Arbour, of $30,000:
- Rita Nehmé, a doctoral student in virology and immunology under the supervision of professor Yves St-Pierre.
Bourse de l’Université du Québec, of $3,000:
- Alexane Léveillé, a master’s student in health experimental sciences expérimentales under the supervision of Denis Girard;
- Fares Saidi, a doctoral student in biology under the supervision of professor Salim Timo Islam;
- Canisius Fantodji, a doctoral student in epidemiology and immunology under the supervision of professor Marie-Claude Rousseau.
Bourse de leadership et d’engagement, of $2,000:
- Apolline Maurin, a doctoral student in biology, under the supervision of Philippe Constant;
- Aissatou Aicha Sow, a doctoral student in immunology and virology, under the supervision of Laurent Chatel-Chaix.
Our scholarship recipients were congratulated by their colleagues and professors, by Diane de Champlain, mentor and director of the Arbour Foundation, by Martine Vanasse, vice-chair of the board of the Fondation de l'INRS, by David Chatenet, director of the Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie, and by Élise Comtois, executive director of the Fondation de l'INRS.
We would like to thank our donors for their generous support, as well as the teams at the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société in Montreal and the Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biologie in Laval for hosting these convivial events. The Foundation would also like to thank the INRS Graduate Studies and Student Success team for its contribution to the competitions, as well as the members of the selection committees for their essential support.
The Foundation team will continue its tour at the Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications in Montreal on Tuesday 16 October at 10:30 a.m., and at the Centre Eau Terre Environnement in Quebec City on Tuesday 31 October at 1:30 p.m.
Since 2020, the INRS Foundation has been stepping up its initiatives to support and promote the work of members of the INRS student, scientific and graduate community. The last two years have seen significant growth in our impact on the community. Last year, six new programmes were created, bringing to eight the number of different prizes and scholarships offered to our community. In 2023 alone, nearly $175,000 was donated to our student community in the form of prizes, bursaries and financial assistance.
Every year, the INRS Foundation adds new scholarships to support its ever-growing student community. They are awarded thanks to the generosity of members of the INRS community, companies, private foundations, as well as graduates and friends of INRS.
