Announcing the INRS Foundation Board’s Scholarship
We are delighted to announce the creation of the INRS Foundation Board’s Scholarship thanks to a $25,000 donation pledge over five years made on its behalf. The agreement was signed last Friday in the presence of INRS Foundation’s Board Chair Martine Vanasse, INRS Chief Executive Officer Luc-Alain Giraldeau, Acting Director of the Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications, Professor Marc A. Gauthier, and the Foundation’s Director, Élise Comtois.
The new $5,000 entrance scholarship will be offered starting in the 2022-2023 academic year in order to recruit and support more female master’s and doctoral students in the Energy Materials and Telecommunications Centre’s training programs, where women are under-represented. The scholarship will further improve the conditions of study offered by INRS to the holder.
“With this gesture, the Board wishes to emphasize that the INRS Foundation is committed to contributing to the achievement of INRS’ institutional objectives, particularly in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion. Encouraging increased representation of women in STEM is another step in this direction.”
— Ms. Martine Vanasse, Chair of the Foundation’s Board
The new scholarship fund is announced as the Foundation launches this fall a new personnalised scholarship program that allows members and friends of the INRS community to directly support our students, the next generation of scientists in Quebec and beyond.
“Our board of directors is made up of high-level volunteers who, through their network, their influence and their generosity, contribute to building the INRS Foundation and to making INRS shine. Their commitment is invaluable and I am convinced that it will inspire others to follow their inspiring leadership.”
— Ms. Élise Comtois, Director of the Foundation
About the new INRS Foundation Board’s Scholarship
The INRS Foundation Board’s Scholarship is designed to provide financial support to female students enrolled in full-time INRS programs of study where women are less represented. The $5,000 scholarship will be offered to a woman who is enrolled or in the process of being enrolled into a graduate program in Energy and Materials Sciences or in Telecommunications at INRS. An award committee of the Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications will select the candidates on the basis of leadership, achievement and commitment, and academic record. Beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year, the scholarship will be presented at one of the official scholarship ceremonies organized each year by the INRS Foundation.
