A ghost bike for Andrea Rovere

Graduate Andrea Rovere was a post-doctoral fellow at the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre. He passed away tragically on September 27 while biking near his home and leaves the whole INRS community to mourn.

A native of Italy, Andrea came to Quebec in 2015 to pursue a Ph.D. in Energy and Materials Sciences, which he obtained last February. His friends described him as a brilliant and empathetic young man, appreciated by all. He embodied values most important to the INRS such as open-mindedness, collaboration, and mentorship.

Sunday afternoon, a couple of hundred people gathered at the intersection of Parc and Mont-Royal avenues for the installation of a ghost bike and a commemorative plaque to honour his memory. An online fundraiser (now closed) was also organized by his friends to raise money to bring his body back to Italy.

The Foundation’s team joins its voice to that of the INRS to express its heartfelt condolences to Andrea’s family, his friends, and colleagues.
