Rio Tinto scholarships for diversity in science at INRS

The INRS Foundation team is proud to announce the creation of a new scholarship program supported through the leadership of Rio Tinto Alcan. Beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year, two $15,000 scholarships will be offered to our student community to encourage the diversity of students tackling sustainable development issues.

“These new scholarships, the most generous we have offered to date, are open to students from INRS’s four research and training centres at both master’s and doctoral levels. I would like to thank our partner Rio Tinto for its generous commitment of $60,000 to support our community over the next two years.
—Élise Comtois, Executive Director of the Foundation

The scholarships are particularly aimed at groups that tend to be under-represented in science related to sustainable development issues. More specifically, we encourage women, people from sexual or gender minorities, people with disabilities, aboriginal people, people from racial or ethnic minorities and neurodivergent people among the next generation of scientists trained at INRS to apply.

This first competition is administered by the Service des études supérieures et de la réussite étudiante and is open until 5 November 2023.

We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those who contribute in any way to these scholarships, which are essential to our student community, including Rio Tinto Alcan, our generous donor, the Service des études supérieures et de la réussite étudiante team, and the members of the selection committee.
