Daring to do science
A 2020 doctoral graduate in Earth sciences and geophysics researcher, Shiva Tirdad is an inspiring advocate to encourage women and girls to pursue careers in science and break the barriers of often male-dominated fields.
Originally from Iran, Shiva Tirdad arrived in Quebec City in 2014 to pursue her studies in geophysics and geostatistics at INRS. The young scientist noticed during her university studies, both in Iran and in Quebec, how few female students there were. She hopes that her experience will inspire young women to follow her example.
“There were a few of us. There were not many, unfortunately. I hope to encourage more women to pursue careers in fields that are often occupied primarily by men,” explains Shiva.
