Position overview
Reporting to the Executive Director of the INRS Foundation, the incumbent is responsible for implementing fundraising strategies and developing and maintaining close relationships with donors, volunteers and alumni in order to increase their philanthropic commitment to the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) and its foundation. It deploys various approaches to prospecting, awareness, solicitation and retention, mainly with individuals, corporations and foundations, for the development of major gifts, planned giving and annual campaigns.
Key roles and responsibilities
- More specifically, the person sees to the identification of groups of graduates to be mobilized, develops strategies and implements initiatives to promote and maintain a close relationship with them, in order to allow them to become involved with INRS and thus contribute to the achievement of the Foundation's objectives.
- Develops, implements and follows up on effective and progressive fundraising strategies, notably by designing and deploying research, qualification, solicitation and loyalty-building methods corresponding to different donor profiles.
- Conducts strategic intelligence, identifies potential new partners, defines approach strategies, canvasses them, develops proposals, and ensures the negotiation, conclusion and respect of agreements.
- Participates in the development of an annual action plan, including the development and implementation of various strategies and programs related to the development of the Foundation's financing and outreach and its contribution to the INRS mission.
- Collaborates in defining performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of all funding activities and conducts the required follow-ups. Produces and uses reporting tools.
- Creates and updates fundraising solicitation, retention and analysis tools (including databases) and other tools required for the job.
- Participates in the development and implementation of a donor recognition and retention plan including correspondence, appeals, meetings, events, etc.
- Actively liaises and promotes the Foundation’s activities with the research and training center community, and establishes, maintains and deepens ongoing relationships with graduates, volunteers, donors, the Board of Directors and the business and philanthropic community in order to develop and expand the donor base and renew their gifts.
- Plans, organizes and facilitates awareness and training sessions to share best practices and mobilize the INRS community to contribute to philanthropic development.
- Contributes to efforts to promote and communicate the Foundation’s mission and impact, including populating the website and social media and writing content, developing presentations, reports and publications.
- Works closely with other members of the Foundation and INRS team to optimize results and ensure rigorous follow-up of various actions in line with the objectives.
NORMAL REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIAL SKILLS
Education
- Undergraduate degree in communications, management, philanthropy, or a relevant discipline.
- A certificate in philanthropic management or CFRE certification is an asset.
Experience
- Between three (3) and five (5) years of experience in a similar field.
- Experience in soliciting and fundraising with major donors.
Other
- Excellent communication skills in French and English, both verbal and written;
- Proficiency in computer tools, including Office 365 and fundraising and donor relations databases and software (e.g., Prodon);
- Good knowledge of the philanthropic community;
- Established and extensive network of contacts related to the sciences or any other relevant field a plus;
- Excellent judgment, impeccable ethics, integrity, maturity, autonomy, efficiency and rigor; constant concern for the quality of work and the achievement of results;
- Initiative, proactive attitude, ability to anticipate, creativity, negotiation and problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to change;
- Versatility and great ease and ability to work in a small team, in a dynamic and evolving environment;
- Desire to reach out to community members in the field, exceptional customer service, communication and interpersonal skills; strong listening skills;
- Strengths in business development and working with financial data;
- Analytical, synthesis, writing and evaluation skills;
- Strong organizational and priority management skills, respect for deadlines and ability to work under pressure and simultaneously on various files;
- Ability to promote a vision, mobilize stakeholders and generate concrete commitment in support of INRS development projects;
- Availability to travel to different INRS campuses and to work outside regular office hours on occasion.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Annual salary of $56,549 to $102,102, depending on experience
- Regular full-time position, 35 hours per week
