New scholarships for perseverance
Ten student success scholarships thanks to a donation from the Fondation J.A. DeSève
Ten master’s and doctoral students at the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société will receive a boost from the INRS Foundation. We have created a new one-time scholarship program aimed at providing conditions that will help students complete their program of study. This program was created with the generous support of $50,000 from the Fondation J.A. DeSève.
Offered in the summer of 2023, the Fondation J.A. DeSève’s Student Success Scholarships aim to recognize the perseverance of master’s and doctoral students at the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) by offering them conditions that favour the completion of their program of study. The scholarship improves the conditions of study offered by INRS to the winner.
“Since the pandemic, we have noted that our students may need an additional incentive to persist and complete their master’s or doctorate. In addition to offering them favourable financial conditions, these scholarships aim to give them a boost of confidence to persevere and cross the finish line.”
—Héloïse Roy, Head of Academic and Faculty Affairs, Centre Urbanisation Culture Société
Among the applications received, particular attention will be paid to those from international students, those who demonstrate the need for timely support to complete their studies, or those who stand out through their involvement in student or community life. In addition to demonstrating that they meet the eligibility criteria, the CV and statement of merit presented by the applicant must be clear and convincing. The relevance and social impact of the research project and the robustness of the work plan for the completion of the study programme will also be considered by the selection committee composed of members of the Centre’s faculty.
Students who wish to take advantage of this special programme are invited to submit an application online, no later than May 15. The winners of the ten scholarships, worth $5,000 each, will be announced in June. An award ceremony will be held in the fall.
The Fondation J.A. DeSève Student Success Scholarships bring the value of scholarships offered by the INRS Foundation to our students to $100,000 to date in 2023.
Our team is proud to contribute to the vitality of the INRS student community by increasing the financial support made available to students to promote their success and recognize the diversity of their backgrounds and the quality of their work.
About the Fondation J.A. DeSève
For over forty years, Fondation J.A. DeSève has supported organisations that contribute in one way or another to the well-being of our fellow citizens. This support is made possible by the generous vision of Joseph Alexandre DeSève (1896-1968), a businessman who owned the Théâtre Saint-Denis in Montreal, the Société France Film, a film production, distribution and broadcasting company, and the television broadcaster Télé-Métropole Inc. Through the INRS Foundation, the INRS student community benefited from the financial support of Fondation J.A. DeSève in 2021 and may benefit from its support again in 2023.
