Towards a new innovation cluster
Faculty members at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique are invited to submit their applications for the future $500,000, five-year Chair in Nanobiophotonics at INRS. Supported by an endowment fund, it will help boost the nanobiophotonic sciences sector on the INRS campus in Laval.
Resulting from a decision made in April 2023 by the INRS Qualification Committee led by the INRS Foundation, this new co-directed chair aims to establish and strengthen links between the Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications and Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie resarch and training centers. The co-directors will develop a joint research program drawing on their complementary expertise, and the funding will be used to attract new students.
The deadline for expressions of interest is February 22, 2024, while the deadline for full applications is April 3, 2024. Following a selection process managed by INRS Research Services, co-directors will be announced in June 2024. Nanobiophotonics aims to study the interaction between matter and living organisms at the nanometric scale. It lies at the crossroads of a wide range of disciplines, including physics, engineering, chemistry, biochemistry and medicine. As a trans-disciplinary field, it aims to apply photonics and optics to the study of living phenomena, and to apply knowledge gained from living systems to develop new approaches in optics and photonics. Its applications cover diverse sectors such as health, the environment, agrifood and nanomaterials.
