The INRS Foundation is pleased to announce that Amira Becheikh is the new recipient of the Andrea-Rovere Scholarship. Established in memory of the brilliant graduate and postdoctoral researcher Andrea Rovere, this award recognizes the community involvement and the quality of the research conducted by a doctoral student at the Energy, Materials, and Telecommunications Center.
Originally from Tunisia, Amira discovered INRS through a Mitacs Globalink scholarship, which enabled her to complete a research internship there after earning her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. This formative experience led her to pursue a master’s degree and then a Ph.D. at INRS. She has also distinguished herself through her commitment as an ambassador for the Institute and her work in science outreach.
Her research focuses on the development of ferroelectric materials capable of converting light energy into chemical reactions to break down persistent contaminants in water. By exploring the properties of these materials, Amira aims to develop more effective and sustainable decontamination approaches that could contribute to the development of more energy-efficient environmental technologies.
“I am very grateful to receive this scholarship. It is a wonderful sign of trust that motivates me to continue my research and contribute, in my own small way, to the development of more sustainable technologies. It also encourages me to keep exploring innovative approaches to address real-world challenges,” says Amira Becheikh.
