What brought you to INRS? What has stayed with you from your experience?
I have always been passionate about research, so INRS was the best choice for me to develop the skills I needed for my professional life. Thanks to the total immersion in the world of academic research it provided, INRS allowed me to develop my critical thinking skills, rigour and work autonomy. I also had the opportunity to develop my professional network.
Can you tell us about the issues and impact of the research presented in your master’s project?
My thesis focused on the structural study of protein complexes involved in the motility of bacteria, in particular Neisseria meningitidis and Myxococcus xanthus. Determining the three-dimensional structure of these complexes leads to the comprehension of their operating mechanisms, thus potentially leading to the development of new antimicrobial drugs.
What does winning this prize mean to you?
This prize represents not only recognition of my research work at INRS but, especially, recognition of my many past years of hard work studying microbiology for healthcare.
What is your next chapter, now that you have received your degree?
Thanks to the international experience of INRS, I have the opportunity to study natural products as a doctoral candidate at University of Glasgow to continue my pursuit of knowledge in drug research.
