In a moving event, amidst the members of the INRS community gathered for the Executive Director Luc-Alain Giraldeau's welcoming speech at the Centre Énergie Matériaux Télécommunication in Montréal on October 16, the Executive Director of the INRS Foundation presented the very first Andrea-Rovere scholarship to Elias Catrix, a dedicated doctoral student specializing in energy and materials sciences, under the supervision of Professor Patrizio Antici.
In his acknowledgements, Mr. Catrix thanked the donors, said he was honoured to receive the scholarship, and acknowledged the impact Andrea Rovere has had and the memory he has left in the Centre's community.
His research supervisor, Patrizio Antici, also underlined the exceptional work accomplished by his student and the deep emotion he felt on learning that the latter had been awarded this very special fellowship, having worked in the same laboratories as Andrea in Italy.
Professor Luca Razzari warmly thanked his colleagues for supporting his project, and Andrea's family for agreeing to the creation of a scholarship in his memory. In particular, he stressed the importance of keeping Andrea Rovere's memory alive for the INRS community, for those close to him and for his family, and was delighted to note that his legacy will live on through this scholarship, which will be awarded for several years to come.
On the initiative of members of the INRS community, the INRS Foundation created the Andrea Rovere Scholarship in 2022 to honour the life and career of this brilliant and generous INRS graduate and postdoctoral researcher. The Foundation thanks all those who contributed to the creation of this scholarship and who generously support it.
The INRS Foundation will conclude its tour of the four research and training centers for the 2023 awards events at the Centre Eau Terre Environnement on October 31.
